1969 Chevelle SS Convertible
This is a rare General Motors muscle car and likely one of the last 1969 Chevelle Super Sport convertibles produced in the Kansas City plant for the 1969 model year. Monaco Orange - a Corvette color - was only available on the 1969 Chevelle if equipped with the Super Sport option. Exact production numbers are not known, but it is estimated that approximately 2,100 Chevelle convertibles with the Super Sport option were produced in 1969 – 1,457 with the L35 engine option and 422 with the L34 option as this car is equipped. The remaining cars were equipped with the extremely rare L78 and L89 375 HP engine options.
This car underwent a “frame-off” restoration in 2004/2005. In general appearance it looks just as it did when it rolled off the final assembly line in GM’s Kansas City assembly plant during the second week of July, 1969. The suspension has been upgraded using Hotchkis suspension components and the engine has had some performance related upgrades. Other than that, it is pretty much as it was in 1969.
Options on the car include “Soft Ray” tinted glass (A01), “Strato” front bucket seats (A51), power convertible top (C06), front compartment floor console (D55), side paint-stripe (D96), posi-traction rear axle (G80) 3.73 ratio axle (H05), 396/350 HP Turbojet (L34), 4 speed transmission (M20), Comfortilt steering wheel (N33), power steering (N40), instrument panel gauges (U14), AM pushbutton radio (U63), rear view mirror with reading light (UF1), and the Super Sport option (Z25).
The color, engine, and transmission combination makes this a rare Chevelle indeed! Thanks for enjoying my piece of American automotive history.
